Malta Business Network (mbn) in conjunction with ifina hosted a successful evening networking event entitled “Meet the Regulator” at the Malta High Commission, Piccadilly, London on Thursday 11th June 2015.

The event was very well attended, with delegates listening to a series of interesting presentations relating to all aspects of investment fund management in Malta.

Professor Joseph V. Bannister Chairman of the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), spoke about how fund mangers should be harnessing the experience and contacts of the MFSA when thinking about setting up a new fund. Norman Hamilton, the High Commissioner of Malta, gave a passionate talk about the essential elements of Malta’s established financial centre and support infrastructures. Daniele Cop of Sparkasse Bank , briefly discussed the legal aspects of using Malta to help grow her customers business and focussed in particular on the legal aspects typically involved. With Alessandro Ciravegna of New College Capital covering off some custodial-related issues under AIFMD and why he chose Malta as an investment manager.

To conclude the speakers, Joseph Zammit Tabona, Special Envoy to the Prime Minister, gave a thought provoking and heart felt talk about Malta and its economic breakdown by sector and value, which he argued is not fully appreciated, and how in his opinion Malta was gaining strength as the recognised well positioned financial jurisdiction of choice for new customers. This was then followed by a brief Q&A session.

The event concluded with a most pleasant summer evening networking opportunity on the roof garden (view photography). Blessed by the weather with the London skyline providing a spectacular backdrop the attendees were able to relax and discuss their thoughts, concerns and experiences with all. The Champagne and canapés circulated seamlessly to help form a wonderful relaxing and informative business event, click here to read Hedgeweek’s coverage of the event.
